An Egyptian Symbol for Life
Ancient Egypt’s most popular hieroglyphic and artistic symbol is the Ankh. It can be seen repeatedly in most temples and tombs dating from the First Dynasty onwards.
The Ankh is the Egyptian cross. As an Egyptian hieroglyph, it is used to represent the word “life”. This cross became primarily a symbol of life.
The Ankh was placed on the lips of dead kings. In Egypt, death did not mean the end; but, was merely a transition to eternal life.
The Ankh can also represent joy, energy, and fertility.
