Vintage Soviet Chess Timer available @ Time’s Tin Cup !

This is an authentic vintage Soviet mechanical chess clock branded as Jantar (Янтарь). It was manufactured in the Soviet Union during the 1950s by the Oryol Watch Factory (Орловский часовой завод).

It operates via dual independent mechanical wind up internal movements. Pressing one of the top metal plungers pauses that side’s clock while simultaneously starting the opponent’s timer.

There are small red levers at the top of the 12 o’clock positions that are called “fall-flags.” As the minute hand reaches 12, it pushes the flag upward; the exact second the time expires, the flag drops completely, signaling a loss on time.

These wooden tournament timers are highly sought after by chess historians and vintage collectors for their classic mid century look.
