Wedding Cakes have quite a unique history of traditions.

A tradition in ancient Rome included crumbling the wedding cake over the bride’s head to symbolize good fortune. The newly wedded couple would eat these crumbs. The crumbs would be gathered up by the guests and thrown at the couple like confetti; as well as, eaten.

In Yorkshire, the cake was a Bride Pie. This pie would contain a chicken surrounded by eggs and contain a hidden ring. The lady that found the ring would be the next to marry.

The Bride Pie evolved to the Bride Cake. The Bride Cake would be brought to the bride’s new home. The cake was thrown over the bride’s head and the plate broken over the groom’s head to endure good fortune and happiness.

A Groom’s cake was an introduced tradition during this same time. The groom’s cake would be cut into small portions and sent home with guests to put under their pillows for good luck. The cake under the pillows were suppose to bring create dreams of future husband’s to young ladies.

The tradition of cake toppers has a long history; but evolved to being a symbol of the bride and groom only within the past 100 years. The representation of the bride and groom was designed by a baker for his own daughter’s wedding. The topper is said to be the perfect symbol of a bride and groom’s love and unity.
