It’s Howdy Doody Time! It’s Howdy Doody! Time Say Howdy Do to You!
You may remember the Howdy Doody TV Show; but, you may not realize that Howdy Doody started as a Radio Show!
Buffalo Bob Smith started Howdy Doody in 1947 when he was a radio announcer at WNBC. The radio show, then, was called, “The Triple B Ranch Show”. On his radio show, he had a character named Elmer that would say “Howdy Doody” when greeted.
The show then evolved to “The Puppet Playhouse” with a group of characters that lived in “Doodyville”. The show went from “The Buffalo Bob Show” to the “Howdy Doody Show”.
The Howdy Doody Show went from being a beloved radio series to a trail blazing of firsts for TV. The Howdy Doody Show was the first regularly scheduled TV Show, the first Nationally Aired TV Show, as well as the first show aired in color.
