Radios carried voice and music in the early 20th century. Entertainment broadcasting began as early as 1910. The first commercial radio station started in 1920. By the 1950s the period was known as the Golden Age of Radio which introduced broadcasts to many homes with entertainment like comedies, variety shows, game shows and music. It was a phenomenon!

Buffalo Bob Smith started Howdy Doody in 1947 when he was a radio announcer at WNBC. The radio show then, was called, “The Triple B Ranch Show”. On his radio show, he had a character named Elmer that would say “Howdy Doody” when greeted.

The show then evolved to “The Puppet Playhouse” with a group of characters that lived in “Doodyville”. The show went from “The Buffalo Bob Show” to the “Howdy Doody Show”. Read more @ It’s Howdy Doody Time !!
