A slide saxophone was experimental instrument that combine features of a traditional saxophone with a trombone-like slide, allowing the player to change pitch by sliding a section of the instrument similar to how a trombone does, essentially creating a hybrid instrument with both tone holes and a slide mechanism to produce sound
