The lucky horseshoe is an Irish folklore of the story of a blacksmith, Saint Dunstan, who was visited by the devil. Saint Dunstan secured red hot horseshoes to the devil’s hooves. The devil howled in pain. Saint Dunstan only agreed to remove the horseshoes if he would agree to never visit anyplace that had a horseshoe displayed.
To this day, horseshoes are believed to keep evil spirits away and keep in good fortune.
