String of Wooden Camels

By Lisa Ostella on November 8, 2024November 9, 2024
String of Wooden Camels @ Time’s Tin Cup !

Camels, such fascinating creatures ! From the smallest tidbit of having 3 sets of eyelids to the most unique features of their humps! The total story of a camel is intriguing.

Not only do camels have 3 sets of eyelids; but they also have 2 rows of eyelashes. These features are a must for keeping sand out of their eyes.

A camel’s hump doesn’t just make the animal unique enough. But there are two species of camels; one of which has 2 humps.

A one humped camel is called a Dromedary:

A 2 humped camel is called a Bactrian:

The purpose of the camel’s humps are to store in or around 80 pounds of fat. The animal can live off of this fat for months.

Camels are also very strong. These animals can carry up to 900 pounds through 25 miles of desert at a time. This is such a unique feature of this animal, that Google utilized this feature to map the Liwa desert for Google Street View.
