Today is recognized as National Hummingbird Day !
Did you know, hummingbirds cannot walk. They can perch & move side to side on their perch. But they cannot land on the ground and walk like Robins, Cardinals or Starlings do. In addition, they cannot hop. However, this bird can fly backwards and is the only bird that can do that!
Since they are continuously in flight, they consume up to double their body weight in nectar a day. But the average weight of this bird is no more than the weight of a nickel.
