Emmett Kelly Jr’s Weary Willie available @ Time’s Tin Cup !
Co-found, Phineas Taylor Barnum, of Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus was born July 5, 1810.
Emmett Kelly, Sr. joined Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus as a trapeze artist. While working with the circus, he brought to life a hobo line of his cartoons and introduced the character he drew “Weary Willie”.

He started performing at the circus as his cartoon clown, Weary Willie. Most clowns were funny; but, this was a sad clown that represented his story of struggle. The sweeping up the spotlight is one of the acts Weary Willie is most famous for.
