Jim Davis is is a television writer, producer, screenwriter and cartoonist! He is best know for one of the world’s most widely syndicated comic strips, Garfield!
The cartoon character Garfield was born in an Italian Restaurant called Mamma Leone’s. The newly born kitten was 5lbs and 6ozs.
The cartoon kitten’s weight was the same weight as the cartoonist Jim Davis’ actual son, James, when he was born. The cartoon character’s name Garfield is after the cartoonist’s grandfather, James Garfield Davis.
Being born in an Italian Restaurant is where Garfield’s love of lasagna originates. But even as a newborn kitten, the over eating of the pasta dish is what got the kitten Garfield taken to the pet shop to be sold. Garfield was eating the restaurant out of pasta.
The cartoon character, Jon Arbuckle arrived at the pet store that same day to buy either an iguana or a pet rock. He saw and chose Garfield because he loved cats.
