The legend of the Easter Bunny can be traced back to Germany in the 1500s. The stories say that a poor woman decorated colorful eggs and hid them around her garden. Children would hunt for these colorful eggs within the garden. While hunting for the eggs, a bunny rabbit was seen hopping away. The children thought the bunny had left the eggs for them to find. The Easter Bunny, also known as the Osterhase in German, was introduced as legend to American Folklore in the 1700s. Historically, the hare was similar to Santa Claus, rewarding only “good” children with eggs, candy, and gifts.
