20th Century Chinese Ming style water urn casted with a pair of writhing dragons.

In the Chinese Culture, two dragons confronting each other symbolizes wealth, power and good fortune. The round object in between them is actually the heavenly ‘pearl of wisdom’ which is the ‘jewel that grants all desires’ from the Buddhist tradition.

Above the dragons is the yunwen, which is the meander cloud and thunder pattern. This design goes back thousands of years to the Shang dynasty. It depicts a symbol of new life, fertility and abundance.

The inscription on the bottom shows this to be a recast from the collection from the Ming dynasty which represented the emperor Xuande who ruled from 1426-1435.
