Samothrace was known for its Sanctuary of the Great Gods in Ancient Greece. The Great Gods were protectors of sailors and it was believed they would ward off shipwrecks and bring naval victories.
The Winged Victory of Samothrace was also a muse for the Rolls Royce emblem; as well as, the athletic shoe manufacturer, Nike.
