Did you know the first person to go over Niagara Falls in a barrel and survive was a woman?

Meet Annie Edson Taylor! She was an American school teacher. She created a customized barrel and took the plunge on her 63rd birthday, October 24, 1901.

She designed a barrel made of oak and iron. She padded the inside with a mattress. The top was screwed on and pumped full of air with a bicycle tire pump.

She was nicknamed, “Queen of the Mist”.
