1891 Antique Cast Iron Potato Ricer available @ Time’s Tin Cup !
Potatoes are a very versatile produce. One way I love to make them is compressing them for mashed potatoes.
Time’s Tin Cup just received a timely and rare piece. A Cast Iron Potato Ricer from 1891. This rare and highly collectible antique cast iron potato ricer manufactured by William Vogel & Bros., patented November 1, 1891. Features the original perforated mesh pressing plate, slotted lever arm, and hinge mechanism all intact.
Using a potato ricer is the single best method to achieve light, fluffy, and restaurant quality mashed potatoes. Unlike a standard hand masher that crushes food into a heavy paste, or an electric mixer that can aggressively overwork the starches into a gummy texture, a ricer gently extrudes the potato into uniform, rice sized grains. This process introduces air and preserves the potato’s delicate cell walls, resulting in a perfectly smooth dish.
