Galvanized Steel Dairy Milk Can 1941 available @ Time’s Tin Cup

Vintage milk cans or churns, were the workhorses of the dairy industry from the late 19th century through the mid 20th century.

Before refrigerated trucks in the 1940s-1950s, these cans were the primary method for storing, cooling, and transporting raw milk from farms to local creameries or directly to consumers.

These 19th century metal cans were made of tin plated steel. They featured a cylindrical body with a tapered neck to prevent spilling during transport.

Collectors of these can’s often look for specific markings or tags. This can, available from Time’s Tin Cup has a Copper ID Plate tagging the can from H.P. Hood & Sons.

These cans today are sought after for nostalgic decor or repurposing. They are frequently used as planters, umbrella stands or to prop up signs for a “farmhouse” aesthetic.
