Vintage Royal Doulton Falconer available @ Time’s Tin Cup !
This is a vintage Royal Doulton character jug titled “The Falconer,” model number D6533, copyrighted 1959 in England. It features a hand painted ceramic figure of a man wearing a blue and white striped hat with a falcon perched on his arm, showcasing detailed craftsmanship typical of mid 20th century English pottery.
Falconry is known as the “sport of kings”. It is an ancient art of training birds of prey to hunt. This sport started in China over 3,000 years ago. It became very popular among European royalty in the Middle Ages.
Master modeller Max Henk designed this specific piece. Henk worked for Royal Doulton for decades. He was famous for making handles part of the story. For this jug, he crafted a detailed falcon handle. The bird perches on the man’s gloved hand. Its wing rests gently on the master’s head.
