Vintage Brass Rocking Horse

During the 17th century, the bow rocker were invented and brought us the rocking horse.

The purpose of the Rocking Horse is said to develop a child’s leg mobility in preparation for horse back riding. Some of these rocking horses survive today and are on display in museums or private collections.

This rocking horse is said to have been King Charles I of England. It is on display at the V&A Museum:

This one is featured in the Royal Collection Trust and features Queen Elizabeth with her sister Margaret:

By the 1800s, the rocking horse were considered a common Children’s toy and have flourished into the 20th Century.
