Bullfighting is one of the symbols of Hispanic culture.

But it did not start with Spain.

Bullfighting was introduced by Greece. The worship and sacrifice of the bull started in the Mesopotamia and Mediterranean region dating as far back as 2000 BC.

This was the influence that started public and arena fights between men and animals throughout the Roman Empire.

Spain’s Golden Age of bullfighting ended in 1920 when the famous matador Joselito El Gallo, “Los Gallo” (real name José Gómez Ortega) was fatally gored in a bullfight.
