Nostalgic Root Beer Float

Vintage dessert glasses @ Time’s Tin Cup !

How many here have sat at a vintage counter and had soda from a fountain? For National Root Beer Float day, let’s celebrate by making one !

The root beer float was created in 1893, by Frank J. Wisner in Cripple Creek, Colorado. Inspired by the moonlit, snow capped Cow Mountain resembling ice cream in soda, Wisner added vanilla ice cream to his Myers Avenue Red Root Beer. He named that refreshing drink, “Black Cow Mountain”.

To make your classic Black Cow Mountain, or root beer, add two scoops of vanilla ice cream to a chilled tall glass, like the vintage dessert glasses from Time’s Tin Cup ! Slowly pour 8–12 ounces of cold root beer over the ice cream at an angle to control the foam. Top with whipped cream and a cherry, then serve immediately with a spoon and straw
