Rapunzel is a German fairy tale published by the Brothers Grimm in 1812. It is a story about a young girl with very long hair. She is held prisoner in a tower by a witch, named Mother Gothel. A prince hears her singing and climbs her hair to help her escape the tower.
The origins of the tale of Rapunzel can be traced back to various legends; like, the Persian tale and the Italian folktale “Petrosinella,” written by Giambattista Basile in the 17th century.
In today’s pop culture, Disney retells this story in their 2010 version of Tangled.
