Lighthouses have attracted a dedicated group of enthusiests because of all the legends and mysteries that surround them.
A favorite tale is one of the lighthouse keepers on a Scottish island, the Flannan Lighthouse, back in 1900.
The lighthouse keepers: James Ducat, Thomas Marshall and Donald MacArthur were stationed here to keep watch over the coasts of Eilean Mor in the Outer Hebrides.
One evening in 1900, passing ships reported that the light had gone out and a search party was immediately sent.
The search party bounded 160 steps up the cliffside into the 75th high tower of the Flannan Lighthouse to find a stopped clock, a prepared meal that went half eaten, a toppled chair, active logs and work notes. The lightkeepers seemed to have just vanished. 120 years, the mystery has remained unsolved.
