Cameos are worn today as jewelry; but they actually communicated ethics and morals about faith and loyalties.

The significance of cameos date as far back as 15,000 BC. Men were the original wearers of cameos that communicated significant events and information. Men continued collecting cameos throughout the 18th century to mark their prestige and culture. In the Hellenistic era, women used cameos to express desire. While during the Elizabethan periods; women became collectors of cameos to communicate their cultural status.
