June 11, 1776, George Washington was the Commander-in-Chief of the Army of the Continental Army. The Declaration of Independence was written by Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Roger Sherman, and Robert R. Livingston.

Every year, the Declaration of Independence is read in Morristown, New Jersey at the Morristown Green. Morristown is considered the “military capital of the American Revolution”.

The Morristown Green itself is where the document was originally read to the public and troops in 1776.
