Collecting vintage salt and pepper shakers can turn into quite a creative craft!

Back in the 1700s, salt was served at tables in small bowl shaped dishes with a spoon. Pepper was served in a caster.

In the late 1800s John Mason, a tinsmith who invented the first jar with a screw on cap, ie., the Mason Jar, made a shaker for salt. But it wasn’t until the early 1920s that the salt and pepper shaker set were manufactured.
