Sylvester James Pussycat, Sr. is a tuxedo cat from Looney Tunes cartoons. Sylvester was voiced by Mel Blanc. Blanc originally voiced the character of Sylvester on the Judy Canova Show prior to becoming a charater of Looney Tunes. Sylvester’s name is a pun on silvestris, the scientific name for the wild cat, the ancestor of domestic cats.

Tweety Pie, originally named Orson, is a yellow canary that is often chased by Sylvester in Looney Tunes cartoons.

The character of Tweety Pie was inspired by Junior the Mean Widdle Kid, a character from the Red Skelton Radio Show.

Junior the Mean Widdle Kid was famous for saying, “If I dood it, I gets a whipping,..if I don’t dood it, I gets a whipping,….I dood it!
