Tydol was a brand of gasoline marketed by the Tide Water Oil Company starting in the early 20th century. These promotional maps were a common marketing tool used by gasoline companies to attract customers and promote tourism. The maps were produced primarily from the 1930s to the 1950s.
Some maps featured a pictorial map on one side showing local sights, in addition to a detailed road map on the other.
These maps often featured detailed road networks, points of interest, and advertisements for the company’s products and services. The artwork and design of these maps reflect the aesthetic of the era, often showcasing idealized images of travel and leisure. Today, these maps are collected as examples of advertising ephemera and historical documents of early automotive travel. “Ask the man at the Pump”.
