Dice have been used by fortune tellers, gambling and games historically from various regions of the world.
Forms of dice have been found dating back to the Bronze Age at a burial site of Shahr-i-Sokhta, aka known as the Burnt City; today’s Iran.
The Metropolitan Museum of Art has a dedicated collection of Dice that are made from animal knucklebones, fruit pits, shells, teeth, reeds, sticks, ivory, agate rock, marble, porcelian and other materials.
The expression “rolling the bones” was adapted from animals bones being a material used to make dice.
Another expression used with gambling dice games is to call on Lady Luck. Lady Luck was originated by the Romans who believed that chance was determined by the Goddess Fortuna, daughter of Zeus.
Goddess Fortuna, also known as Lady Fortune, was the Goddess imaged to depict Lady Justice. She would be represented as veiled or blind.
