Hattie McDaniel was the first African American woman to win an Oscar.

The book, “Gone with the Wind”, author Margaret Mitchell based Scarlett O’Hara off of her own life. Mitchell was born into a wealthy Southern family and was raised through the struggles of surviving the years after the Civil War.

The line “Gone with the Wind” is most known for, “Frankly my dear, I don’t give a damn” almost did not make it through censors. The producers had to protest to keep that line in the movie.

The Gone with the Wind Museum has historic tours of the Tara Estate and overviews of the history of the post Civil War Reconstruction Era.
